Ivory Ostrich Feather Cape, Handmade to order!

I have been working on an Ostrich feather cape for the last two days for my winter brides, although this cape is suitable for all year round as it is so delicate.
It is lined with a double layer of silk, so that it sits beautifully around the shoulders. Two layers of the best quality Ostrich feathers have then been sewn into place.
The cape can be made longer if required, and it can be worn at different angles across the shoulders. It can also be worn with a beautiful broach or fastened anyway you like.
It is available in an array of stunning colours too! Contact me for a quote if you are interested... 01271 813104

Floral and french knotted silk with a skirt that moves like water!

I have been waiting a while to blog about this stunning gown that I made this summer. It was for a truly delightful and very beautiful bride Alice.
Alice came to me with a very definite picture in her mind, and after a couple of hours of sketching, digging around in my fabric collection and churning all sorts of ideas about, Alice putting her trust in me and let me get to work on a very exciting project.

Her gown was made in a cream double crepe backed satin for the skirt, it was cut with plenty of fullness to create the movement of ripples of water when she walked. The bodice was made from a silk Dupion with an embroidered floral pattern and delicate french knots, we decided to use two colour ways for this. Alice was keen to bring a duck egg blue into the gown, as shewas given as a wedding gift from her Godmother and bridesmaids duck egg blue shoes from |L.K Bennett. They were truly amazing and looked stunning with the whole gown.
I spent hours cutting out flowers and leaves and placing them around the bust line and lower bodice, each one had to be hand stitched into place. Several fittings later,
we had created the look that Alice was after. I am waiting for a photo of Alice and Ben on there wedding day, so that you can see the gown in all its glory!

Summer time!

This summer has been a really encouraging one for me. I have had some really super brides that I have worked really well with , the results have been stunning!
This is one of my brides on her wedding day. She is wearing a double crepe backed satin gown [of which we turned the silk over to have a non satin side, as she wasn't to keen on shine!] She chose a leavers lace in Ivory to come down half way as an over top. The lace had a beautiful scolloped edge. It had a slight scooped neckline, long fitted sleeves and rouleau loops and buttons all down the back. I love this photograph by Michael Wells photography. He captured this fantastic image, quite unusual for a wedding day. Thank you Hannah  for letting me use it.

A new sample gown for my Collection!

This week I have been working on a new sample gown for my collection. My collection gowns show my customers the quality of my workmanship. I take them with me to Wedding Fairs and they are available to see from my studio and website.

This gown is a slim fitting 'A' line gown with a scooped front and low back. It is a very elegant gown, made in ivory Regal Silk Dupion, with an embroidered bodice. I have intricately used some very vintage sequins and diamantes on the flowers to decorate it. The train is also decorated with the embroidery, which I have painstaking cut and placed. I finished off with a duck egg blue flower for something 'blue' in the middle!

A Country Bride!

I was delighted when my lovely bubbly bride Charlotte sent me this photo, with her father on her wedding day.
Charlotte chose a favourite of mine, a fine Italian embroidered net. This is worn as an overlay on a bias cut  heavy double crepe backed Satin gown.We chose this heavy weight Satin so that it would hang beautifully. Fabric choice is so important, it takes time and knowledge to chose the right fabric for the particular gown designed. This is of course where my expertise is invaluable.
Charlotte also wore a beautiful fitted bolero jacket that complimented the whole look perfectly. I hope to have some more photo's soon so that I can show off the back of the gown and train.

Cream Silk and Leavers Lace.

This lovely outfit was worn last weekend by Emma.

Emma came quite late to me, maybe three months before the Wedding! She knew exactly what she wanted and so this was a delight to make, and she was wonderful to work with too!
Many shops will not take on customers so late, really they want a good 6 months lead into a Wedding. However I rather like a late challenge, which was just as well!

The dress is in a cream Regal Silk Dupion with a cream Leavers lace bodice, with 3/4 length sleeves.
Under the bust sits a band. As you can see this dress is finished off with a wonderful hand tied bow and tails.

I love the back of this and I hope Emma will send me some good photos of it to show it off to its full glory...watch this space!

Just right for a Country Wedding!

This month has seen quite a few of my gowns leave my studio, finished and ready for the big day.

I always feel sad when they go, as I get very attached to the gown, given that I have worked on them for several months. I also make friends with the brides. Last weekend was the wedding of a gorgeous bride, Sian, from Plymouth.

The gown was bias cut in a double Crepe backed Satin with an all-over Leavers Lace. Although it is not clear, the gown was in a dark ivory, almost cream colour. It was cut in an empire line, gathered in at the bust and finished with a pretty vintage broach. Small shoulder sleeves just finished off the look, with 32 pearl buttons, and a small train.

Sian loved her gown, and has just sent me this message before she left for her Honeymoon!

“Hi Caroline, I just wanted to email to say thank you so much for making my dream dress come true! I loved every second of wearing it. I felt wonderful in it, and had so many compliments! I will send over a decent picture of it when they come.
Had an amazing day - best day of my life! And the sun shone!!
Thank you so much.
Lots of Love,

Sian xxx”

Grandma of the Groom!

This lovely ensemble is soon to be collected for a Wedding in Brussels.

I have had great pleasure in making this outfit for a very trendy lady, who is the grandmother of the groom.

It is a Trouser Suit in a Silver Silk Dupion. The fitted jacket is  lined in a deep claret, which looks stunning. I have finished this off with 8 diamonte buttons.
I have also made a grey lace top, which is lined in a double crepe backed satin, this makes the top hang beautifully.

My client looks absolutly gorgeous , she was a pleasure to work with, so was her husband who came along to pass me the pins!

Lace Sleeve....stunning!

source
I am about to start a very interesting gown that is all about layering pieces of intricate cut out embroidered lace .This is my inspiration.
Although, the gown I am making will not have sleeves, I just love this sleeve, and will try and use this effect on the neckline and back of the gown, the results will follow!

Half term with Alice.

This half term Alice has been in my studio. I took a much needed break from making my gowns and had some fun time with her. It is amazing what a little bit of velvet and sparkles can do. We made chokers and headbands for Alice Bunny and Wild Rose for their birthdays. I think she may be following in my footsteps!

Sneak Preview...

Last week and for the next few days I have been working on a beautiful gown. It is in a cream double crepe backed Satin and a cream Leavers Lace. It is again a fitted gown cut on the bias so its flattering to the body. It falls away into a lovely full train at the back.  It has a delicate scalloped edging that I have been painstakingly  adding to the train. My bride is beautiful and I am eager to fit her in the next week or so...I do hope she is as pleased as I am!
